Thread: Need help finding fish in VA

Default Need help finding fish in VA

I'll be in Williamsburg, VA in late July (about 2 hours West of DC). I'll have plenty of time on my hands for about a week to try to find some fish. It may be feasable for me to take a yak or two with me. Any help appreciated. I hope to stay off big water.
Anyone know of a forum specific to VA? Thanks.

If you're in Williamsburg, you are going to be about 2 and 1/2 hours southeast of DC. going west on I 64 will get you to the brook trout streams. kyacking in the tidal waters of the James River or the Chickohomny will find lot's of bass and bream. Bass around the lily pads and hardwood blowdowns. Watch for water snakes though.
    good luck

When you can arrange your affairs to go fishing, forget all the signs, homilies, advice and folklore. JUST GO.

Lake Prince and the other small lakes in that area offer good fishing with a lot of different species... including land-locked Stripers.

The James River can be fun too.

The Chickohomny is a bit difficult at times and there are too many speedboats, skier for my liking. It is scenic, but it's so big that unless you know some hot spots already you could spend a lot of time not catching anything.

Those would be ideal since the wife will be with me, particularly one that doesn't see a lot of big boat traffic.

    Hint: Look for water.
Good fishing technique trumps all.....wish I had it.

Williamsburg is closer to Hampton/Norfolk than DC. You might want to bring some saltwater rigs and charter a boat, might hit some small tuna if you're lucky.

in that kind of action really...as far as chartering. I do appreciate all the feedback from everyone.
