    Default Reel Sugestions?

(I posted on another board but I am interested in opinions here as well)

    I know,.....here we go again..what's your favorite.......
Seriously I need a few suggestions.
I just bought an older Sage 490-4 RPL and plan to use it for Migratory Rainbows, Brookies and Browns on smaller tribs of the Great lakes. ( I have an 8wt and a Ross Gunnison 4 for the bigger boys)
I would like a nice light Reel with a good drag that would complement the Rod and not break the bank. New or a lightly used classic would suit me fine.
A Hardy Lightweight or an Orvis CFO have been suggested. ( I have read about drag problems with the CFO ..no? )
    Any suggestions?
I will be paying with converted Canadian Pesos...
    Cheers

I would be interested to find out what reel you end up buying. I read your thread on VFS and frankly I am more confused which reel is best than before I read it. You will be deluged here as well. Keep me posted.

Galvan makes a great reel, if that is within your budget I think it is the best buy out there.

Mark me down as one more Galvan fan. They make a beautiful reel with a great finish and buttery smooth disc drag.

Nice rod.I have a 690-4 RPL and an 890-4 RPL.I would suggest a Hardy LRH Lightweight if you can get a deal on one.A J Ryall,Teton Tioga or a Ross Cimarron would be good choices also.If you want to go large arbor, look at a Ross Rhythm. You have lots of good choices for that rod.

I am a huge fan of the Orvis Battenkill or the Battenkill Bar Stock would be nice too. You won't go wrong with an Orvis reel. Hope you find what you are looking for!

    Dear Duffin Boy,

I have a Ross Gunnison G-1 on the same model rod and I wouldn't swap it for nothing.

I wish I would have bought more Gunnisons when they discontinued them a couple of years ago. Great reel for the money.

    Regards,
    Tim Murphy
