It's not expensive, but....
....the shipping from the Gulf Of Tonkin is the killer.
Oh and the middle men...oh and then the myth that
Tonkin cane is the only kind to use for boo rods....
this is all guesswork, ymmv !

To all : The picture of the bamboo trees , was when I visited my Daughter in Norfolk Va. We went to see the botanical gardens there. As you can see my mind wandered and there they were,.. "Bamboo Trees" ..........shows you where my thoughts were...LOL
And John: I am considering building another cane rod (wouldnt ya know).....LOL
I'm having a blast with the last one I did and catching some fish.....I need to fish it through the summer , and then just maybe ...I will cave in again. I been thinking about a 6ft 2pc.5wt for those big trout you and I know about..........Oh my , what a disease!

The bamboo itself isn't actually all that expensive- with shipping, it costs about $30/culm. The cost of a well crafted bamboo fly rod comes mostly from the time and skill required to make them. And of course, there's all the other materials that go into the rod (wood and nickel silver for the reel seat, guides, silk, varnish, cork, glue, aluminum and brass for the rod tube, etc..). All told, even the most well established rodmakers that sell their rods for upwards of $2000 only make about $15/hour.Originally Posted by Eric-WD

Joe the little guy next to my signiture indicates sarcasm. I was refering to the old saying " Money doesnt grow on trees."or when someone commments about the expence of somthing the answer being well it doesnt grow on trees.
