leader/thread spools always seem to be out of control. Here's a way, with a pony bead/shrink wrap and some elastic to make spool "controllers" to fit any spool.

Like most good ideas , its simple but effective. Thanks , makes me wish I would have thought of it myself.
Great idea, but I can't figure out how to attach the bead to the elastic? Just glue?
Firstly, I think SweetStreams means shrink tubing, not shrink-wrap.
It looks like an appropriate length of elastic is cut, and both ends are put into a short sleeve of shrink tube. In addition a plastic bead is put into the sleeve so that the ends of cut elastic are on each side of the bead. (I expect it is easier to put the bead in from the loop side as opposed to the ?outside?. Then the shrink tube is heated to encase the elastic against the bead. In the process the ragged end of the elastic is singed, making it less easy to remove (or the excess elastic could be cut and the remaining stub singed).
Greg. Right on!! I did mean shrink tube. That's it exactly!!

Okay, this idea officially goes in my very cool ideas box. Thanks for sharing a terrific idea.

Like these items here? If you make em homemade want to give us the play by play so i can make em too?

Greg H. nailed it exactly. That's exactly how I make them. A lady tyer at last
year's Albany, OR show gave me one. I can't recall her name. It's a great idea and
cost almost nothing. I make them in several sizes. for wire spools, thread spools, leader spools and even the larger bulk mono spools. Sure keeps leader spools hanging on my vest under control.

I'm missing something here...foggy brain I guess....
Are the ends of the elastic on the outside of the bead?
And then the shrink tube over them?
Looks like that on the Cabela's example.
If all this is true wouldn't a little super glue help?
Duck,
Sure, if you can do it without getting the SG all over your fingers. The shrink tube is quick and easy. I have tried plastic tubing without glue. It works O.K. but I find it more difficult to get the parts together.
