Thread: Dreaming about tying?

    Default Dreaming about tying?

I have been tying so much lately I am starting to dream about it!
I dreamed the other night I was tying the perfect cranefly.
This is just scary but, it sure was a nice pattern I came up with, I should have written it down when I woke up.

    Default Good dreams!

Hey! Those are better than the dreams I've been having lately!

Not tying...yet...but casting? I dream about casting all the time. Just a different strain of the same virus, I'd guess.
The most valuable thing I've learned about fly fishing is just how little I really know.

    Default monster fish

Had a couple of dreams about actually catching monster fish. Both good and bad. In once case I'm catching monstrously huge brook and rainbow trout in a river. In another I'm stuck in a float tube in a pond with high cliffs all around and no place to beach it, plus there are these bass made out of limestone that keep trying to eat me.

    Crazy. That's why I don't drink anymore.

I think the dream was divine inspiration.
Perhaps you should only use that pattern this coming season. ??

As others stated, the gods of fly fishing only come to me in dreams to taunt me also.

    You are just plain lucky.

I've been having dreams about fishing every week or two lately, but I can't say I've had one about tying yet...guess that's the next symptom in the progression of the addiction that is fly fishing.

Do some recessive hypnosis and have the hypnotist write down the pattern for you! JGW

Thanks for sharing everyone, it is good to know I am not the only person who dreams about fly fishing. I can now reassure my family they do not have to do a intervention and take away my vice and supplies, I am just one of many with an obession. As for shack nasties, I don't think that applies. I have been out at least once a week all winter, not very successfully unless you count not falling on the ice, or breaking anything more inportant than a few leaders.
I will be working on a recipe for the cranefly and that will be fun to see if it measures up to my expectations. I don't think it will be the only fly I fish this year, there are just too many flies in the box screaming to be given a chance on the stream.
