Visitors from Washington State

Received a small package today from Washington State with a BIG GIFT.

Ron Eagle Elk sent along a selection of the flies he likes for his Pacific Northwest waters, to try here in the Intermountain West. Got the perfect place in mind, but it may be a few days before I get the chance to tempt our Central Mountains rainbows with them.

In the meantime, here they are.



I do believe the trouts over here ( which do not live in ugly places ) are going to enjoy playing with the soft hackles above this time of year. And for sure, the ones in the two lower left sections of the other side of the box will also trick them this month.

Have fun, John. The box is one of those Jim Hatch specials from Wally-World. They work pretty well for a days worth of flies.

Cool Ron,
You sent me one of those boxes a couple of years ago. They didn't have any flies in them, but you turned me on to a cheap fly box for $1.00 at wally world in the pharmacy. They are called pill boxes. In a fly shop they are called fly boxes and would cost $10.00.

One of REE's Wee Wets accounted for several fishies. Would have gotten more if I had stayed with it, but I had rising fish looking for dry flies so I went that route instead.

The spiders are made to be fished to rising fish (those tied on the short shank light wire hooks). Next time, don't switch.

Hi John,

Nice result! And, as REE mentioned, try a spider tied on a light wire hook and with a very gentle presentation, they will sit in the surface film and you effectively fish them as per a dry. They may break the surface, but even then they are just underneath and can be very effective during a hatch. A nice alternative to play with. Anyway, good to see the update.

I'm heading off over to Europe today and will have limited internet for a couple weeks, so it was good to see this!
