Thread: Best bass yet

    Default Best bass yet

Last weekend I took the family down to my favorite spot on the Frio river in south west Texas. It was a little cold so I caught very little. However, fishing an autumn splendor deep in the current I found this guy. Caught on my 5 Rivers 2wt and Galvan standard. Made my weekend. I fish the area rivers often and I caught 1 and 2 pound bass all day, but this one was BIG.

I know what a battle even 14"-17" bass can be, even on my 5wt or 6wt. I can't imagine how much fun THAT fish would be on a 2 wt!!! Nice job!!

The Hill Country rivers are a lot of fun to fish. Those big guys just come out of nowhere somtimes. Great fish! Must have taken some skill to land on a 2 weight.

He was pretty sluggish with the low temps so wasn't incredibly hard to land. I fish that 2 weight everywhere and it can handle more than most people think. I really like it.

Here's where I learned to tie that fly. Great fly.

Have you used it on the Guadalupe river for trout? If so how has it done and with what type of setup?

I have only fished the lower guad once and I used a hare's ear and an egg. Slayed em. I need to get down there more but I have too much fun on the Nueces and Llano.
