Thread: flyfishing in Scotland

  1. Default flyfishing in Scotland

I?m looking for recommendations for doing some fly fishing in Scotland next August. I?d like to spend two days fishing, one chasing brown trout (preferably in a river or stream, though I?m not totally adverse to loch fishing), and one swinging for Atlantic salmon.

The criteria are principally location and cost. We?re going to be using my folks? time share, which will determine the area we are able to fish. The time shares we can use are located in Perthshire/Stirling (close to Loch Tay, Kinloch Rannoch, Loch Lomond, or Aberfoyle), or Aviemore in the Highlands. If anyone has any input on which of these locales would be the best for fishing, I?d love to hear it. (Any info on these locations as a whole would also be most appreciated. I?ve spent very little time in Scotland.)

In addition to recommendations as to location, I?m also interested in suggestions for a guide for both days.

Cost is a concern, though I recognize we?ll have to pay to fish wherever we go. I would like to get some decent trout fishing in (sea run would be cool, but not necessary), because I recognize the odds of catching an Atlantic in one days? fishing are pretty slim. Nonetheless, I?d like to try.

Any thoughts/info/suggestions are most appreciated. My email address is s_trutta47@hotmail.com.

    Thanks in advance.

    Maybe I can help some.

First off here is a resource for ghillies and rod tickets.

Salmon? River Tay which from Stirling..45 minutes tops. Aviemore and the Spey is going to be hard or expensive to get on, but worth doing it if you can get on there. Again from the centre of the country where you are, another hours drive.

Trout? Pretty much about anywhere you see water, which back home is roughly about anywhere you can throw a rock.

I will give you more later, I have to go to bed early tonight, I'm off on a two day fishing trip which has me leaving at 2 am in the morning.

Feel free to email me too, I think its in my profile, I'll answer any questions you have.

edited to add, like a dummy I forgot to say, I'm Scottish.

Bluehackle thanks for the heads up but that is an old website I go not use anymore & is more than 5 years old. I must get round to deleting it.
Suinbruin have a look here [url=http://www.thehighlanderway.com:757bc]http://www.thehighlanderway.com[/url:757bc]
Clic on Scottish Webring at bottom of home page. You should get some info from sites listed on that one.

Thanks for the update, Highlander. The new website is much more fun and interesting. I really do like those Clyde flees.
