Thread: Bob's Lake in Ontario?

    Default Bob's Lake in Ontario?

Is any one here familar with it? I have a very personal reason for asking. My grandparents owned an island on it, with a wonderful cottage. I spent 10 or so summers there, and they sold it and moved to Florida. This was a shock to my parents, aunt and uncles, but I guess they didn't want to try and figure out how to sell it to family. It was a great loss. we never did understand it.

I have been wanting to go back there for a long time, though I have been afraid. I'm not even sure I can find it. Its around Perth/Tichbourne. I think we went north on 38 from Kinston, and then 7 east towards Perth. Our access was the Steel farm.

Does this ring a bell to anyone?

rriver, Are any of your relatives still around? If so why not ask them. It sounds like it has been a while since you were there and I can understand why you would like to go back. If you do find it and explain the connection to you I am sure they would let you reminise.. If it has been many years since you have seen itit will probably seem smaller, maybe a lot of changes have been made or..the new owners didn't take care of it. Good luck in your search...but sometimes pleasant memories should stay pleasant memories...

The idea was to save them any disapointment, or to give them a pleasant surprise. It has been difficult. The mapping I have looked at is missing alot of key information. I was going to go at it with Google Earth some more to try and get oriented. I used to know that lake pretty well and if I can get a land mark I can go from there. I did find some kind of rustic cottages for rent, but really not what I was hoping for.

I was actually just looking for information, if any one had any, or knew about the lake.

    The map is at http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory =&searchtab=home&address=&city=sharbot+Lake&state= on&zipcode=[/url:0d3f4]

The Ministry of Natural Resources office in Kingston (613-531-5700) or Tweed (613-478-2330) probably knows what is happening there now.

Apparently there is a water diversion issue ongoing for the lake. http://www.vtce.org/takeson.html[/url:0d3f4]

I don?t have the fishing regulations but presume that only bass is open now. From reading the articles it seems like lake trout may be in Bob?s Lake (or at least they were).

Thanks for the info, its appreciated.

I found a web site with a guy who wrote a book on the area, and has a web site. There is a picture of Steele's farmhouse, and the path has many memorys of walking up there and buying milk and home made ice cream from Mrs. Steele. There is even a picture of Cecil Steele driving a boat, and another one with my grandparents island in the background. It was in a chain of 5 islands just a 1/2 mile or so off shore.

I now have directions to Steele's farm, but apparenly, all the Steele's have passed.

I'm going to go next summer.
