    Default Thanksgiving Eve

I had to get out today since we had a high of almost 70 degrees and there was no generation in the tailwater I fish. I arrived at the Lower Illinois River as the sun rose. It took me awhile to figure out what the trout wanted. San Juan worms were the ticket today. I landed about a dozen fish, lost too many, and missed even more strikes. It was a great day to be fishing.

Great pictures! That is an interesting San Juan worm pattern. I may have to give that a try!

Well I got the idea from the Drifting Oligochaete Worm found in the FOTW archives. Check the 4th quarter of 2003. The pictures show pink and red patterns and I did land a couple fish on a pink Oligochaete Worm. I guess I should give Mr. Statler some acknowledgement, instead of calling it a San Juan worm. When I tie the pattern in the picture, I leave a little longer head section for the movement. Wrapping the chenile around the shank also hides lead wraps well.
