Thanks, Tom for a nice article. It's a subject that seems to come up often.

I've got a couple of questions...

Do you have a formula to get a nice burnt orange color?

Relative to fur does the leather stay soft....say if you were dyeing zonker strips?
Recently I was messing around with some rabbit ...trying to get a good burnt orange and I noticed the leather turned out stiff. I wasn't really paying close attention to the degree of heat but it wasn't real high. If I remember correctly if one stays below 140 degrees the leather stays soft....it's been awhile and I notice most of my homemade dyed furs are not zonkers.....

Orange and brown can make a burnt orange. I have used Venyiard Fiery brown and orange and gotten a burnt orange.

On the rabbit, I'm not sure why the skin gets brittle. I don't know if it is the heat or the vinegar. I have tried it with low heat and it still got brittle. very little vinegar, same thing.

    Any help here?

    Bob
