Default Thought ya'll might like to see the rod bassflyrodder built

You may remember that back in the Spring bassflyrodder put a post up about needing someone to pick up a motorized wheelchair in New Jersey and deliver it to his mom in north central PA. For doing so he would build that person a bamboo rod of their choice. I was fortunate to be the first one to reply to his post and I wanted to show you the rod that will be coming my way next week.

It is a 7'6" 4wt, a medium action based on a Payne 100. The guides are Titanium plated, the reel seat is a down locking with cherry burl insert and it is wrapped in gold silk.

I am excited to get out and fish with it, but now I am gonna need an approiate reel to go with it. One that is along the lines of tradition and not a fancy new one.

    Thank you Pete.

    Jerry

Jerry, congratulations. Pete's the best, and a super guy on top of that. I am fortunate to have one of his beautiful bamboo rods. If anyone is contemplating a custome built rod, they should look no further and give Pete a call. I am absolutely amazed at the detail and craftsmanship that he put into this. On top of that, Pete has some of the best tying materials to be found anywhere.

Dot Man , you will love that rod i am sure. The payne 100 is prolly the best 7 1/2 ft rod taper of all time. The already mentioned hardy lrh is a good match for it.IMO this rod is not particuler to balance a reel with as it is not tip heavy at all. Here is a pic of mine with a Berkly 530 (copy of a hardy featherwieght) next to a heddon 310(copy of a hardy lrh) and a 31/4" JW Young beaudex from the 50's. All 3 of these reels are a good match to a payne 100.

    Dot Man:
Did we miss what you did to earn this rod? Jerry, you went over and above to help a member. God Bless. Good deeds may be amply rewarded, but it is the deed that counts.
    Glad to know you man!!

That's a beautiful rod, Jerry. I agree with Jack that you went above and beyond for a fellow FAOL'er. More proof of what I already know, you are one great guy, Jerry!

Oh Dotman, I'm disappointed in you. You're going back to one of those prehistoric rods made of cut pieces of grass? I thought you were a modern man. Shame, shame!
But seriously, it is a beautiful rod, and I hope you have many years of pleasure with it.
