    Wow Pete,

I hate to be the one to tell you this but I think you threw back (or ate) a world record steelhead.

I use an undertaker fly on steelhead. PTN works just as good but I like the looks of an undertaker better. I like the looks of your fly better though. Size 6 or 8?

This hook is the Eagle Claw #1197 in a size 6 or 4...I prefer #4. It is the strongest hook for its size I have seen. I used to get these from Herters for $20/1000. Does that date me? They are still being made but are a bit more now. I think I still have 500 or so left.

It could have been a record for a Summer run fish in Oregon but wasn't close to the 50 pound or close to it US record for a Winter run fish. However, you don't want to get between me and a good meal. I also ate an Oregon record whitefish (8 pounds) versus the current state record of 4 pounds 7 oz. Hmm, that might have gotten me a bunch of free hooks and gear tho.

Very nice fish. And, I really like that fly too. Might just have to tie some up as I'm sure it would produce nicely here as well.

Here is another favorite of mine. It was a 2006 Fly of the Week here so the detailed instructions are there. Santiam Surprize
