No tiny midges here....(well, not this time of year)...LOL
Anyone here tie big, heavy, bushy smallmouth flies?

Better send 6 of each to the Island Nation for a little on stream testing...

Latest out of the vise:
TMC8089NP Sz 2, Waipsi 3/8" foam, fiber and crystal flash tail.
Labeled the "7UP" (Lime/White) Wiggle Minnow.
Wiggle Minnows are quickly becoming my "go-to" topwater river smallmouth bass fly. The action, when tied correctly, of these flies is awesome!

The 7UP wiggle looks pretty sweet.
Nice tie.

Yeah! I need to find a source for that foam...Anybody know if you can get that kind of material (foam cylinders/tubing) from a craft store/hardware store? Or just from a fly material distributor/retailer?
The reason I'm asking, is it looks like the foam cylinders from Wapsi max out at about 1.6" in length...and I was wondering if anyone has longer cylinders that can be cut to size?

There are three ways to complete a project. The right way, the wrong way or the Boss' way. You'd best learn the Boss' way.
FishnDave,
Backer rod...it is a cylindrical foam rod used to fill in gaps around windows etc before caulking.
It comes in several diameters and lengths. I have never found it in white ...usually gray...think mouse pattern.
It can be found in the insulation section of Lowes, Home Depot, etc.
Or you can punch out your own from flip flops, foam kneeling pads, swimming noodles, etc.

Wapsi has the foam. It comes in several colors. I think the packages contain 5 to 6 pieces of foam cylinders and they are around 2 inches long. I use the 1/4" size for my bluegill poppers and it will float forever. I know they have the following sizes, 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and more. I purchase mine from my local fly shop and I think Feathercraft has them too. The Wapsi foam cylinders are the only ones I have found that will not eventually take on water and start a slow sink.

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.
http://www.stoneriveroutfitters.com/ has foam cylinders
todds wiggle minnow in any color combo is still a todds wiggle minnow
