Thread: Punta Gorda Condo and Mangrove Snapper flies

Post Punta Gorda Condo and Mangrove Snapper flies

At the oldest sister's 25th wedding anniversary party last night, the youngest sister told me that its almost time for some of the family to go down to the condo for some briny fishing again. Guess I'll have to break out the 9x9 and check the salty flies. Probably will need to tie up a few more. Will mostly be fishing for reds, seatrout, and mangrove snapper. Anybody have some good mangrove snapper fly patterns? I think I've got the reds and seatrout flies covered. Thanks.

Clousers work very well. Hard to go wrong with Clousers.

They always were an incidental catch for me. However, about a year ago I took my kayak down to Pine Island Sound and cast Clousers into sand holes on the grass flats. Caught and released 25 mangs from 10 to 15 inches. Go figure?

Thanks. I have not tried Mangrove Snapper yet on the fly rod so that is why I was asking. Been catching them straight lining (and a one foot shock leader) with the medium spinning rod on live greenbacks. Sacrilege I know but the family doesn't fly fish. I pick up the fly rod when there are not as many kin in the boat so there is more room to cast.

They are fun, aren't they? They certainly do snap, and they're fine eating if you swing that way.
