You are in luck, the instructions for Pete Frailey's Gurgle Pops are right here on FOAL. Check the Fly of the Week Archives for the fourth quarter of 2003. The full (and excellent) set of instructions are right there. Pete states that 80% of his bass and panfish were caught on a #8 yellow Gurgle Pop.
For large Gurgle Pops, I tie in a large tail of bucktail and saddle hackle. I then tie down two half inch foam stripes instead of just the one that Pete uses for the smaller version. I triangulate the end of the foam to reduce bulk. For example, I tie down the green strip of foam, give it a good dose of Zap-A-Gap and tie down the orange strip of foam on top of the green strip. I dub the body with Ice Dubbing or Ice chenille. I then fold the orange strip of foam over the top of the dubbed body and tie it down near the eye of the hook. This forms the orange understrip. I then fold the green foam strip over the orange and tie it down in the same place; this forms the green back. You can add rubber legs at this tie down point if you wish.
They are really great foam flies. Hope this helps. 8T

Here's a link to Gartside's Gurgler step-by-step instructions as well....

I've been playing with "in betweens" of these two patterns and they work great! Yellow, white, and black so far...
Jalama,
I'm thinking , You were thinking 8T meant 1/2" Thick foam strips...and I'm thinking he uses 1/2" Wide stripes of the same thickness as discribed in pete's Gurglepop instruction.... But don't feel bad...as at the time of reading his reply in the other thread..so did I...lol

Wish ya great fishing,Bill
I use 2mm thick craft foam and the strips are half an inch wide. The more clearly I try to write, the more confusing I become. 8T

thanks to all for responding, i have used the gurgle pop for quite some time but did not understand what 8 thumbs meant by using two strips of foam. i understand that they are 1/2 inch wide but i always use a single strip of foam tied in first near the hook bend and then folded back over and tied behind the hook eye???? many thanks for all your help.
