  1. Default Winston Boron IIx rod

I'm in search of a new 5wt or 6wt Winston Boron IIx rod in a 9' or 9.5' length. I you know of any great deals on such a rod, please e-mail me.

Orvis is introducing a boron at the end of the month (zero g). you might want to compare prices.

I didn't know that. Thank you. I'll look into it.

The new Zero Gravity was introduced at the
    Denver Show - I wasn't favorably impressed.
    Your milage may vary.

The Orvis new boron Zero G rods will start at $625.
The man who coined the phrase "Money can't buy happiness", never bought himself a good fly rod!

    D. Micus, not to be argumentative, but what if something costs less but isn't worth a hill of beans otherwise?

    Cast 'em first!

    LF,

May I ask why you were not impressed? Did you cast any of the rods?

    Thanks,

Don't know of any good deals on these rods (Winston Boron IIx) right now, and since they're still new, I don't foresee any discounts in the near future.

But, boy, these rods are so fun to cast and fish. I own the 8 and it's my favorite saltwater rod. Next up is the 6.

    Good Luck

    LadyFisher,
But, do you like the Winston?

I did cast the Winston Boron 2 years ago at the insistance of Joan Wulff who 'designed' it (it was made to her specifications) and I was very disappointed. It was supposed to be the lightest rod made and when we weighed an old Gatti we had, the Gatti was lighter.
The rod was designed as a 'lifter' with the heavier butt section and was not anything to brag about in my opinion. Joan said she asked for the rod in that configuration so she could still fish for Atlantic Salmon, and the 6 wt was what was "the" rod.

On the Orvis, Zero Gravity, I did not cast it, but a VERY knowledgable rod designer I was casting with mentioned it was poor, tip heavy, but then all Orvis rods are. This one is supposed to have some super secret 'military' stuff (like the Trident, remember?) but I did take a good look at it and the cosmetics were poor, not something expected for that price.

    Just my opinion.
