Smile Need a bit of coaching from our saltwater gurus

    Greetings all,
I am tying some Puglisi minnows for an upcoming trip to Fla. I have the instructions, patterns and materials but in looking at the Puglisi 3D eyes, these babies have a plastic stem on them that is at least 1/2 inch long and will be a headache to afix to the fly. I think that figure 8-ing them into place and adding superglue might work but I am wondering if anyone trims down the stems to a more reasonable length so as to enable use of an eye on each side of the fly. If you do trim them down how do you do it without damaging the eye itself? Dremel tool ?? Wire cutters ?? FILE ?? I bought a couple of his flies to study and use as models but I cannot figure out how he or his tyers accomplished this part of the pattern. The stems are really too long to allow placement on both sides of the fly.
As usual, I am most grateful for any shared wisdom or how-to tips that you are able to offer.

    Regards,
    Gerri

i have always used goop to glue the eyes on the puglasi patterns, but i always bought stick on eyes for his patterns never tried a 3d dumbell eye style.

Just clip the stem so a short nub remains.* I use a razer blade. Tie the fly with the Puglisi materials.* Then, apply the eyes using goop or something similar. Glue the nubs to the shank of the hook.Regards,Keith

    Default Eyes with stems

I just cut them off with a pair of dikes and glue them on.
