info on books

[Justice League]

What is the most informative book anyone has read on fly fishing. I am fixing to go on a long business trip (about three weeks long) and are just looking for something to keep me learning.

Jason -

Two that I found very helpful and enjoyable are (1) Dave Whitlock's "Guide to Aquatic Trout Foods" published by the Lyons Press and (2) Mike Lawon's "Spring Creeks."

Both are very informative on a range of fly fishing "stuff," although Lawson's might have a narrower focus than Whitlock's.

On the other hand, the writing in Lawson's "Spring Creek" is about as good as it gets.

As a Pennsylvania boy I'd be remiss to say anything but "Trout Tactics" by Joe Humphreys.

In lieu of his recent passing, I plan to soon read George Harvey's "Techniques of Trout Fishing and Fly Tying".

This one's the complete idiots guide to fly fishing. It's actually an amazing book. I love the way the author explains the lives of the insects that fish encounter in their lives. Great reference and it has subjects written about many species.
