    Default Fornham Wrap

Can you use the Fornham locking wrap on single foot fly rod guides? Also, can you use trim wraps on them?
    Thanks

Sorry, but no. It's under Rule 1310.1(ii) in the manual. Go to sub-paragraph ii and check the second paragraph down. Ya just can't go doing Fornan wraps on just any rod.

Yes, to both questions. There are mixed feelings on the necessity of the Fornhan Wrap, but it's up to the builder to determine if he/she wants the added security of wrapping behind the guide foot. If you wish to use this wrap method, here is an excellent tutorial showing the method, step by step.

RS1 is correct, based on the OLD manual, which was revised in 1987 to include the Fornhan Wrap as an acceptable and proper wrap for the weak of heart.

    Smile Fornhan/Manual

    LOL!
I never received the manual and I am therefore ignorant of that clause. The only manuals I have are: "How To Say 'Boo' And Really Mean It" and "An Idiot's Guide To being An Idiot."

Okay then, do you see the Fornhan Wrap as necessary?

I think it is an extra level of security on single foot guides - I do it. If you never bumped a guide, you wouldn't need it.

I had a turnover casting rod that had one of the transition guides come out. I replaced that with a forhan wrap, but don't normally use them. It doesn't hurt, though.

    Default Problem Fornhan Wrap

I discovered a problem with the fornhan wrap when it comes to small singlefoot guides for fly rods. There is virtually no stem between the guidefoot and the guide leaving no space to slip the locking wraps behind and underneath the guide. I keep getting a thread gap. No matter how I attack it. I have a pro going to take a look at some digitals of the guides to see if he can figure something out or show me if I'm doing something wrong.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem.
