Now, if they would just show me how to get the spray skirt on! That's the only thing I ever have trouble with! I usually go without it because I've never been able to get it on.
There are only three reasons for using a sprayskirt. First if you are going out in breaking waves the skirt keeps water out of your cockpit. Second is so you can roll up from a capsize without water entering the cockpit. Third is to keep your thighs from getting sunburned. Sunscreen and no sprayskirt works pretty good for me. If you are bound to use a sprayskirt make sure [ practice the move] you know how to release the sprayskirt when you are sitting in your boat upside down. I rescued a kayaker who became trapped when she couldn't release her sprayskirt while she was capsized. Take a safety course. Plastic boats don't have much of a rim around the cockpit for the rand of the skirt to grab anyway.
