Along the same lines, I watched an old timer clean up his computer screen with MEK once. Don't try that at home.
Made that screen go funny in all kinds of different ways.
Better to be an active environmentalist than and environmental activist.

Wow! Xylene is great for thinning "Goop" and making your own flexament... Acetone is good for "ungluing" your fingers when playing with super-glue... MEK is good for taking paint off of almost anything... They all affect (melt, soften, dissolve) plastics in various ways.

All of these solvents are rough characters and won't do your long-term health any good. You have to use them carefully -- and if you don't know how to use them or what they'll do, DON'T play with them!

I thin out Goop with Toluol/Toluene. Is it the same stuff as Xylene? I know you need to take care with Toluene.
    They're just fish, right? Right?

Toluene is not the same as Xylene.

Acetone is not a carcinogen or a mutagen, according to the EPA (last revised in '03).

Lacquer thinner is no longer acetone, it is usually Toluene and Ethyl alcohol.

Most, if not all nail polish removers are also acetone free.

Know your solvents. The liver you save may be your own.

Toluene is what the last "T" in TNT stands for. It would be a good idea to be careful with it.

When I worked for a well drilling company here, we had a big job at a TNT plant in Chattanooga, drilling environmental test wells. The water under the ground was saturated with toluene and had a sweet smell to it. Of course we had to take the necessary precautions when we drilled down to it. No one was hurt that I know of, but then again, they made us wear rubber gloves, safety glasses and one of those white suits that nothing penetrates. It was fun...
