Has anyone had much luck in fishing for landlocks during the first half of April in the CT Lakes region? I'm sure ice out varies year to year but typically how early would you consider trying? Thanks for the info!

Ice out on the Connecticut Lakes usually occurs the first week of May, at which time landlocked salmon begin feeding on smelt that are moving into the river to spawn.
The best landlocked fishing occurs right after ice out and continues for 1 - 2 weeks.
If you want more details I suggest you contact Lisa or Tim Savard at Lopstick Lodge.
If you're into ice fishing, the ice up there should still be rock solid in April. Vermont mandates shanties and vehicles be off the ice by April 1, but you can still drag an auger, lawn chair, and maybe even a radio to listen to the sox out there for the day...I'm not sure what the New Hampshire regs are.
If March is mild and there's any open water, don't bother going. The fish head for the higher oxygen near the open water where the ice could be dangerously thin.
