    Default Checking in...

Good evening from Bayou Country. Some of you kind folks have sent emails my way expressing concern over my well-being in regards to Hurricane Katrina.

I am 200 miles west of New Orleans and we are expecting winds 50-60 mph gusting to 70 mph and lots of rain, but nothing severe. I do have family and friends in New Orleans and the surrounding area and am praying, like we all are, for their well being. Cell phone lines are pretty much jammed up and hard to get through any time.

We are hoping for the best, expecting the worst. It's a nightmare New Orleanians have suffered many decades now.

In addition to the unique geography and hazardous situation it sits in, decades of the oil industry and others raping the Louisiana coast (read "Bayou Farewell" by Mike Tidwell for an eye-opening and terrifying overview) has resulted in the destruction of our marshes and barrier reefs that for thousands of years protected Louisiana from such storms.

Keep us all in your thoughts and prayers.

    Best regards from the Rez,
    Roger Stouff

    Roger,
You and all there are in our prayers.
We had ours last year. Two of them made direct hits on my house. Praise the Lord there was no damage.

    Hi Roger,
We're watching it here on the TV too - if you could update this from time to time as you can it would be MUCH appreciated. Stay safe!

Indeed. We dodge a few tornadoes up this way, or at least have so far. Closest we've come to a "disaster" was when the snows of '97 buried the back half the house, and the floods that followed. Our prairie prayers are with you and your brethren, Roger. JGW

    Hey Roger,

Thanks for the heads up. I've thought
about you several times today as I watched
the reports but had no idea what part of
Louisiana you lived in. Thankful to hear
your west and as far as you are from New
Orleans. Stay safe! Warm regards, Jim

    Roger,
You came to mind immediately when I heard of this storm's predicted path. Glad to hear that you will be on the slower side as it moves ashore. Pray for the good people of New Orleans!
