Default Help with mono weed guards

I am tying some bass flies for a trip to TX. I need to put weedguards on some of the flies. My past attempts have not lasted very long as they come loose at the hook eye. I put the mono through the eye and tie it down. Someone told me to use pliers to flatten the part of the mono that goes through the hook eye. However watching a video on HatchesTV, he flattened it but it did not look like he put it through the eye. What's the best way to do it? The pattern I am working on now is a bucktail deceiver type (no feathers) with weed guards.

After you put the mono through the eye and tie it in, heat your bodkin in a flame and poke it through the hook eye.
The melted mono won't slip through the wraps

Was it my spidergrub video? I do not put the mono through the eye because I tie it in behind the bead. If I do not have a bead I flatten it and stick it through the eye. But I do flatten it either way.

    Wayne,

Either melt a ball on the end of the mono so it won't pull through the wraps, or flatten it, push it through teh hook eye, then fold it back over the top of the hook eye and tie it down.

I prefer the second method. A drop of CA glue, and it's pretty permanent.
