Can anyone tell me how to fish a Crease Fly? Is it a surface fly? Thanks.

A Crease fly is a surface fly and is fairly easy to tie. You can find the tying directions at http://www.flyfishsaltwaters.com/Creasefly.htm. While it was originally tied for saltwater, it is also effective on freshwater species that eat little fish like bass and pike.

I've used them with full sinking line, and weighted with a split shot. This to fish verious depths and keep the crease fly just off the cover, being fished.

I used a floating line with a strike indicator and sank the fly with shot.

For LMB, I use a very slow twitching motion for a foot or two, followed by a pause for twenty or thirty second. Twitch and pause. Twitch and pause. For stripers and hybids, I use a fast series of strips. 8T
Thanks guys, that was just what I was looking for. I just started tying them using Loco Foam.
I get lots of topwater hits in the spring from Gills and Crappie. Then once they start to get waterlogged, stripping them just below the surface close to weedbeds seems to get some attention from some Bass.
Usually I will give it about a foot strip and let it sit. If the strip puls it under, it slowly floats to the surface and lays on its side like a wounded baitfish. With a nice active tail it seems to get noticed.
Oh, and if you can get a wheel cutter, they are great for cutting them out quickly and en-masse!

I like them!

Fish them like you would fish a jerk bait or balsa minnow with a spinning rod. As mentioned above, one type of retrieve will not work for all situations. When I tie them I put a small rattle inside. I think it adds to their appeal.

Crease flies can fished in a number of ways as noted. When fished topwater, a properly tied and fished crease fly will give very erratic side to side (aka "walking the dog") motion. Pike go absolutely wild over them when they are in a topwater mood.

KJ - The rattle sounds great. I have a few laying around and have been looking for a way to use them. Thanks.
