Thread: Carp Fly Patterns?

  1. Default Carp Fly Patterns?

I'm looking for any online sources for patterns for Carp fishing flies. The brother of a friend of mine took up the fly rod and the friend wanted to give him some flies and expects he will fish mainly carp waters. Having never fished for carp, I have no clue what to tye.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Try these. I am sure that if you PM someone that has a pattern you like they will share it! FAOLers are cool like that!

My most successful carp fly in the Red River here in Manitoba, Canada has to be the Prince Nymph

The guys at our local shop seem to be all about the 'freshwater bonefish.' They've got books, DVD's, flies, guided trips, etc. all for carp on the fly. Check em out: great guys to deal with.

You could always just use Haresear and a bead head Prince Nymph. That is what I use.

Long Haired Dave here in N. Texas has a great little fly called the Sucker Punch.

Trash On The Fly has some good info. carp are great pullers.

Here in London Ian James, author or fumbling with a flyrod created a pattern called the muncher nymph, it's a standard to many people in this area. there are a few patterns here and there on the net that vary and Ian takes orders through his web site which a googling can turn up. It's a wicked carp getter.

any bulky dries like irresistables and humpys are awesome on carp in slow murky water if there is any kind of bugs on the water as well.
