    Default Home PC Setup

After Dshocks thread concerning SpyWare I thought it would be interesting to see how others setup their home computers. For Me:

Browser - Mozilla FireFox with the FireFTP and Foxytunes extension
E-mail - Mozilla Thunderbird with Sunbird/Lightening extension for my calendar.
Business - OpenOffice for Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentations, Database, etc.
    Accounting - Quicken
    Music - iTunes
    Firewall - SpySweeper
    Anti-Virus - SpySweeper
    Anti-Spyware - SpySweeper

I find these to be the essentials for Home needs. Most are "open source" and free downloads keeps the expenses down (More for FF toys ). I have heard good things about other products as well like: AVG Anti-Virus, Safari, etc. What do you use and why do you find it better? I tried Safari and did find it superior to FireFox except the beta version was quite buggy and blew me out of the browser on several sites.

Browser- Apple Safari, I dont even like Mozilla anymore. The beta version is nice!

E-mail- Gmail, Much faster than yahoo or others I have tried and a cleaner user interface.

Photography program- Picasa ( awesome program)

    Music- Itunes

    Videos- Apple Quicktime

All the virus stuff is covered with Norton and spybot search and destroy.

I like Apples programs a LOT better than what Microsoft has, so I have a Dell PC, But I run all the Apple programs that are downloadable for Microsoft. Kinda the Best of both worlds I think..

I can't even get Safari to run on my machine. I've downloaded it on two separate occasions and when I click the desktop icon, I get an error message stating there was a problem encountered and the program has to shut down. I'm running XP Sp2.

    ausable_ny,
I went to the Safari Support Forum and found this possible answer; Re: Unable to make 3.0.4 the default browser on XP

I fixed this by going to: Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Set Program Access and Defaults > click Custom > under Choose a Default Web Browser, click Safari > click OK

    Hope that'll help you.

    Windows XP Pro Safari 3.0.5
Let me know if this helps and I'll look further!
