Default Where is the sweet spot in your fav. rod

Last night I was helping a friend with her casting (D- haul) She asked " How much line shouls I have out through the guides when Double hauling for a long cast. My answer was, get it in the middle of the sweet spot. She said what is that? I said that is the place where the rod is loaded and the cast seem effortless. She said ok? Now how mch line do I need out? I said it depends on the rod. Your not helping me! We played with the rod some ( 9' 6 weight ) after a while we desided the sweet spot for this rod was between 40 and 50' A bit far for most fishing. I took my GLX 9' #6 and we agreed it was 30-40' and it was much more managable for her. So I ask you WHERE'S YOUR SWEET SPOT?

Is it possible to find the sweet spot with your # 6 fly rod with one type of # 6 fly line but not with another brand of 6 weight line?

This was probably a stupid question. What I?m trying to ask is can one flyline bee great on one rod but terrible on another?

Gudgmu - Yes, I have transformed a POS rod into a keeper by changing line brands (same taper configuration). It seems the casting characteristics of line brands is not the same due to length of front taper and weight tolerances by AFTA.

Do any of you mark the sweet spot on your fly lines...if so how? Sometimes I find myself "distracted"[maybe it's a senior moment] and I'm out of the sweet spot.
