interesting new tool

well, about a month ago i saw this tool in my dads tool set, and since he rarely every uses his tools i decided to snatch it and see what i could use it for. its pretty much just a heavy duty needle with the a 90 degree bend about an inch from the tip. for me personally I like using it more than a regular needle for things like pulling the dubbing out a bit to make the legs on scuds, getting glue out of the eye of the hook, fixing mistakes on flies, an just about anything you need a needle for. i just like this better because it feels better in the hand and is for me a little easier to use. so i just thought id share it with you

Looks, somewhat, like what I've done to an occasional screwdriver, ricocheting it off the floor!

I have a wonderful set of dental instruments that I got from Duluth Pack, with different sized tweezers, and picks, in it. Don't think I could build a rod without them!!

They are pretty cheap. You might want to purchase a whole set, then you can designate a tool for each purpose.. Straight for picking out dubbing, curved for poking glue out of hook eyes..etc. And they have different angles of hooks as well

Also these can be purchased at any of your local hardware stores.(Homedepot, OSH, Ace,etc)

These little probe sets look a lot like dentist tools which ALSO have their place on the fly tying bench. I've also found them in many hardware stores where they keep the "precision" tools.

If you have any large flea markets in your area; there always seems to be a guy selling cheapo hemostats & tweezers. Sometimes they also sell lots of probes and such that are PERFECT and cheap!

The plastic handled tool in the first posting is a common tool for removing cotterpins and other like items in automechanics tool boxes.

Finer smaller sized tools are commonly used in the dental field and make great fly tying tools.

I asked my dentist for a catalog and was very shocked at the prices they pay. When I told him what we pay for fly tying tools that appeared exactly the same he admitted the medical field really overpays for tools.

Some of the local gun shows have vendors with boxes of medical tools made in Pakistan for very low prices, scissors, tweezers and dental tools.

I got a few very nice proffesional dentist picks from my dentist. They had flaws that made him retire them. He saves the retired ones for customers who are gunsmiths and now me!

All it cost me was a dozen flies on the next visit and $85.00 for the tooth extraction!!!
