.... for a nice squid fly recipe.
Here's the finished product ...
"Only the half-mad are wholly alive." ~~ Edward Abbey
This is the Abrams Banana Squid. Looks a bit strange dry, in the water it's a different story.
This fly is also great tied with a Bob Pop style "hollow" collar

Another version

My own version of a squid fly is also based on the flat wing style tie
It's mostly white with sparse pink, yellow, and lavender bucktail blended in with the white in the collar
Also, instead of the junglecock eyes, I tie in pheasant "church window" feathers at the hook bend for eyes.
Very popular with the fishies
The simpler the outfit, the more skill it takes to manage it, and the more pleasure one gets in his achievements.

Some more patterns to check out on the google:
Sea Arrow
Calamari Circle
Shady Lady
You can tie a simpler version of the Shady Lady w/o the mono extension, by tying the bump and hackle directly on the back of the shank. To do this I use hackle length suitable for a 1/0 Deceiver on a 3/0 hook (34007 or equiv) to get a longer shank length suitable for the eyes and mantle (blended.color BT)
Not as elegant or as much action in the water, and the proportions are a little off compared to the real thing, or tie with mono extension, but it?s a simpler tie and casts better.
You also can do a very simple small pattern for little squid on a 1/0.
Tail: Thin grizzly hackle
Body: Chenille underbody covered by EZ body tube
Eyes: big doll eyes
