I have the whole paperback set that Pat did.
I have been called "tacturn" by the unknowing in the past and can see how the uninitated may make that mistake.
That being said also know this .
McManus' books are about the only ones that can get me to laugh (ok, roar ) out loud when I read them.
If you havent read them , you must .
Every angler ,every hunter ,outdoor sports person has been through at least some of what Pat describes in his books.
His early camping experiences mirror my early camping forays.
Hence my motto"When the going gets tough , get away from there fast".

Topic; Forgetting to put the plug in your boat.
As I explained to Curtis, almost every boater at one time or another forgets to put in the plug. That is why the psychiatry business flourishes. One of my patients launched a boat from the trailer, tied it up to the dock, and left to drive his truck and trailer up to the parking area. When he returned, all he could see of his boat was the bow line straining at a sharp angle down into the water. On all such occasions, even though you haven't seen another person in the last three weeks, a crowd instantly assembles and shouts gleefully, "YOU FORGOT TO PUT THE PLUG IN!"
