i think whats at the end of the lie is a fish and the square object is in the distance. follow the line and you'll see its above the square object

If I was a gambler, I would say the mystery square is a raised sign, like you find along the interstate highways and the hole of water was made when they dug out the dirt to build the road. Just guessing....
