    Default Frog Pattern Gill Popper

Well I hope to get better at painting the frog pattern, but this is my first one and want any comments about how to improve the painting that you may have.

    Thanks,

Stellar popper! I love it. Perhaps you need a Field Tester! I can fish them all day long and respond with constructive criticism (not much will be needed). Just send me a box of 12 and I will let you know what the fish think!!!

    Excellent Job Skip!!!

Ya know now that you mentioned that I once took a Pop-R that is for bass fishing and tried to customize it like the pros do by sanding down the sides and modifying it a little more. After it was done I painted it a frog pattern and the one thing I did different than here was I took some real dark green and made some spots around the yellow spots and that thing caught a ton of fish.

So thanks for the reminder about the marks.

And SKershaw thank you for the kind comments!

    Skip,

Nice looking poppers. I do have one question, I noticed the hackle is oversized, do you think this will cause some problems during the hookup? I would be worried that the hackle, if it is too stiff, might be covering up the hook gap.

I guess only fishing the fly will tell if the hackle makes a difference.

    Regards,

    Alberto

no expert on poppers but I would think the oversized hackle would work as a pretty good weed guard.

Not only do I think the hackle will not be enough in the gap to make any difference, it should look a little more leggy without using rubber legs.

Down side will be I have to be careful taking the hook out to not pulll the hackle loose.

Mostly though, I just liked it like that on this one for some reason?

Great Job! Only thing I could tell you about color is to study some frog pictures online to get color ideas. Bass aren't that picky anyway. It's more the contrast than the colors that get them.

Keep up the good work. Outstanding.
