i fish for trout not steelhead (not geared up for steelhead).

please just generalize. no honeyholes. i will google up your suggestions.

what part of Washington, Oregon and Idaho are you intrested in, and what kind of trout. You have cutts, rainbows, many veritys, Brown, golden and dolle vardan(bull trout) with this information form you we would be more able to supple the information your looking for,

I would hit the Deschutes around Maupin or Warm Springs. http://www.deschutesangler.com has good reports. Then head to the Metolius and Crooked. Then hit some of the Lakes south of Bend. Check the state forums on http://www.westfly.com

In eastern Washington near Ellensburg, is a blue ribbon catch and release river know as the Yakima River. You can fish it from below Lake Easton all the way to Rosa Dam way down in the canyon. Depending on the time of year the river is either very wade able or best fished from a drift boat. If you contact the people at the Worley Bugger Fly Co. they will be more than helpful in telling you where you can fish and what flies are working best. I use them on my guided trips on the Yakima River year round.

Well, in Oregon for trout,
The upper Rogue, above Lost Creek Lake near prospect. Native brookies & 'bows, Hatchery 'bows
The North Umpqua Fly Only stretch for trout and summer steelhead.(I fish the summer run with a 5wt.)
The Chetco from Brookings for the first 20 or so miles up for Cutts
Diamond lake for fat 'bows
Fish lake, Lake of the Woods, Howard Prairie res. & Hyatt lake for 'bows
Klamath lake for big 'bows
The Williamson river, Wood river, and Agency lake at Upper Klamath lake for Browns
I'm a So. OR boy, those are my fav's. The Wood & Williamson & the N. Umpqua the best streams. Hyatt lake & Agency lake the best lakes, IMHO ........... ModocDan

If you Hike, you must go to Paulina lake and do the 7.5 miles around the Lake, then go next door to East lake, go inside the Store, look at the photo of my Son's 30 in. Brown on the wall, then fly fish East (Good Habitat)
Drive north to see the Columbia Gorge, then drive south and see Crater lake!!
How easy is that??

How long? 1 week trip

Some sight seeing? absolutely i'd like to see the bend oregon area. heard its nice!

Transportation...? i would rent a vehicle

Big budget...little budget? middle of the road budget

Companions? i like the alone thing, personally, but would entertain the idea

River or ponds/lakes? both are fine with me

Trout? any species of trout is OK

Accomodations? cheap motel chains with AARP discount works for me
