Thread: Two regulation proposals in NY regading use of Trout eggs.

  1. Default Two regulation proposals in NY regading use of Trout eggs.

Today there is a story in the Buffalo News announcing that

"Jim Markham, senior aquatic biologist at the Lake Erie Fisheries Unit, reminds trout anglers of two regulation changes proposed to start Oct. 1, 2008.

One would ban the chumming of trout eggs, a practice that has led to illegal killing of trout (excess creel numbers) and discarding of carcasses. The second proposal would ban the sale of trout eggs statewide and limit possession to one quart per angler.

To share your thoughts on these trout regulation proposals, call Markham at 366-0228 or send an e-mail to: jlmarkha@gw.dec.state.ny.us"

I always wished we had this regulation when I lived in Michigan. It would be like Christmas morning if these two proposals passed.

Some tackle shops sell them, or you can take them from a trout you just caught.

Got a response from Mr. Markham

We are just in the process of submitting all of the regulation proposals for 2008. Their will be an "official" comment period for these regs, and as long as their is not major objections (which we do not expect for these), then they will go into effect Oct. 1, 2008. I will pass along your comments for support of these two proposals, and we are keeping track of the comments that do come in. I appreciate you taking the time to comment! Jim

We aren't talking about the bottled fake eggs that are sold in stores are we? This refers to harvesting eggs from females and killing the fish right?
