    Default Smallest sot kayak

Okay, what are the current shortest, most lightweight of the SOT type of kayaks. I was also looking for one that is stable. I don't want a heavy one.
P.S. are they easier to flycast from than the sit -in type kayak.

    Thanks jkilroy

You can go as low a 8 feet on a sit on top, but it wouldn't be practical for fishing. I would say the shortest would be in the 10 foot to 11 foot range like the Wilderness System Tarpon 100 (10', 52#) or the Ocean Kayak Caper (11', 45#). I prefer the SOT for fly fishing because you have more elbow room for hauling on your casts and you can sit side saddle, which makes it easier to cast.

My seven year old loves his Ocean Kayak Kea - 8ft. 11 inches rated at 130-150 lbs. (even though he only weighs-in at about 60lbs.)

High quality - Stable - Easy to paddle...

    It was an excellent buy!

He saved his own money for 2 years to purchase it! He's a great great kid!

    Is that small enough?

The general store down the road sells Coleman kayaks
I think this is the one I've seen there

SOT kayaks tend to be wide, slow, and very stable. They also are rather haavy, mainly because of the construction materials. If you want a light SOT you might take a look at a Current Design Krestel 140 SOT (http://www.cdkayak.com/products/templat ... 010c744089). It is a 39 pound SOT boat. It is based on the very popular very stable Krestel design but in an SOT format. It is longer and a bit narrower than most SOT kayaks. It is much faster than almost any other SOT. I have never driven the SOT version buy have the SINK boat that has the same hull design. Within that class it is a very nice stable ride and much faster than is standard for a SOT boat.
