Default Here we go again ...

Just a note to those of you getting out into the "great outdoors".

We had (another) 6 fires last night in "my" forest, ... 4 from lightning strikes, ... but:

one was (from the propogation signature) obviously a cigarette butt thrown out the window on a logging road, and the other ...

was from a "shore lunch" fire not properly put out.

Have fun, ... play hard, ... come home safe and respect nature ...

    Same thing here Chris,

We have a fire about 10 miles out that has burned 12,000+ acres so far. We're on stand-by to evacuate if the winds kick it this way. Too much lightening, too little rain. Good luck, and be safe!!!!

The fire danger is "Very High" here in michigan! So far campers are only cautioned about campfires but if we don't get some rain soon the MDNR may shut down all fires.

    CG, Jack, ...

We're hitting Very High to Extreme in most regions North of the St-Lawrence seaway.

We MIGHT be CLOSING the forest to all non-essential travel in a few days ... we'll see ...

I usually have over 40 miles of visibility out the window from my office, ... but right now that's down to 10 miles from the smoke haze drifting in from some fires we have about 150 miles from here.

(then again, ... fire recurrence here is naturally up around 100-120 years, ... so this IS Nature at work ...)

If you've ever been "up close and personal" with a raging wild fire, ... you'll know you don't do it for fun.

Take care out there. Play hard but come home safe.

In Minnesota, we have had two months of rain, rain, and more rain. Yet on the first hot (over 90 degree sunny day) people are draining the city's water towers, watering their lawns. So the city does not have any water to put out a fire if one started....

Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool
Swam three little fishies and a mama fishie too
"Swim" said the mama fishie, "Swim if you can"
And they swam and they swam all over the dam

    Steven,

    WATERING the LAWNS !!!

man, .... each summer I can't wait for the "dry" season to hit so's the darn lawn will STOP growing.

I have a little "push" reel mower, ... no motor ...

Go off for a weekend of fishing and when I come back I have to mow the lawn before it gets too long to cut with the my little mower.

I like my lawn nice and brown and dry and NOT GROWING.

yup, the CA wildfire season is also upon us. even with the 125% snow level for this year, and snow still hanging out in the basins and valleys above 7000', we are at high to extreme conditions...

Tis' the season to be CAREFUL out there ...

The group that takes care of fires here in Quebec just called up Bombers from Alberta and Newfoundland to help out.

We already lost 203,400 acres in June, ... more to come (just in my sector, ... there are many more I don't even occupy myself with).

    Countrygent,

I am suposed to be at a wedding Saturday about 5 miles north of Rye on some ranch. I don't care much about that but what I do care about is, can I get to San Issabel? If not, are you fishing somewhere in the area Saturday?

    Matt,

Aren't you going to get some weird looks if you show up at the wedding in waders and floppy hat?
