Thread: 9-foot 3-wt?

  1. #1

    Default 9-foot 3-wt?

Do any of the major rod manufacturers offer a 9-foot, 3-wt. rod? Preferably under $200? Preferably a 4-piece (or more)? I really like my TFO 3-wt. in a 7'-6" length, but wonder if a 9-ft. might not be even better for float tubing. The closest thing I've found searching the online catalogs is the TFO Finesse series that's offered in an 8'-9" 3-wt. Surely someone makes a 9-footer?

There was a thread about this very subject a few months ago on another board (VFS I think). Two piece 9' 3 wts are fairly common....I have one.
While I'd never heard of a multi piece 9' 3 wt there were some responces to the tread listing some manufacturers of the rod.
I thought I remembered Global Dorber as being one but doing a quick check of their web site I didnt find anything but 2 pc.
    Good luck.

    I have a 9ft. 3 wt St. Croix Avid series -- it is a 2 pc. rod.

AT one time, Elkhorn made one in 4 piece also -- don't know if either one is still made.

GlobalDOrber has at least three 9ft. 3 wt. rods, but all in two-piece. Finding a multi-piece 3wt. for under two hundred might be a stretch.

    I checked the Elkhorn web site -- they have a 9ft. 3wt in 4 pieces -- about $180

To help with part of your inquiry. The first rod I build was a 2 pc 9' 3 wt. to use with my float tube. It worked great! Lighter and well balanced so I could fish for hours with out a sore arm.
Hope you find what you are looking for, you'll have a lot of fun with it,
