Default New Rod On The Way

I know this should be in the Rod Building forum but I wanted more people to see it.

I've been looking for a 9' 3 wgt. with little luck. A friend of mine that builds rods convinced me that I could do it to.

I also checked the Rod Building feature and after reading Al Campbells article I knew I could do it and have fun at the same time!

Hook & Hackle got so much good press in the Rod Building section that I ordered a kit today. And, with a 40% discount!!

P.S. I contacted Bob and advised him not to try walking on water just yet!!

    And so another obsession begins!
Good luck, have fun and yes it is easy (sort of )

I still have a 9' 10wt to build laying in the corner of my tying room (basement). Don't know what I am going to do with it but the price was right.

    Jack:

Make sure your friend that builds rods shows you each step so you got an idea of how its done. Its not hard but seeing is always better than reading. And ask questions. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to build my first rod in a class where the instructor made sure we got the idea before doing a step.

    Bob;
After talking with him today I knew I could do it.
Also, I live next door to tool shop owned by another good friend. I can get my rod building tools made for free!
Just hope that old rotisserie (?) motor still works?!

Sounds good! I have built 35 rods and my own rod jig and drying apparatus so if I can be of any assistance, feel free to contact.

    Have fun!!

Dr. Bob; That's a deal. I know I'll need help with the tools.
My friendly tool shop owner is a genius at design & manufacture, just needs sizes.

Jack, a simple V-notch fixture is helpful to hold the blanks as you wrap the guides. You don't need much more that this fixture and a couple of V-blocks to hold the rod as you pply the finish.

The old technique of running the thread through a heavy book is usually tedious and uneven.
