Default A fly for picky trout

and of course for you soft hackle attics

i also tie a brown version that also produces excellently!
    recipe:
    hook: dairiki curved sz 14-16
    thread:17/0 uni thread
body: olive, brown, black, ginger, blood red, marabou fibers
    thoraxeacock herl
    hackle(optional)live partigde

this fly is very simple but has worked wonders for me for catching finicky trout!

Very nice flyandtie! Those look like they would have a lot of movement in the water from the "feather fluff bodies".

Have you tried any with a few turns of red thread or gold tinsel at the bend, as a tag?
Sometimes a small hot-spot like that can really get them keyed into your fly (stands out a touch from the naturals). On the other hand, there are days when that very same feature seems to put them off, so it's best to have both at the ready until you know what kind of day it's going to be.

How old did you say you are?!?! Excellent flies!!

Wonder how my life would have been changed if I'd known about flyfishing/tying at age 14, instead of waiting till I retired before learning. Keep up the good work!!!
Trouts don't live in ugly places.

A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.

Don't look back, we ain't goin' that way.
