Thread: What is your Favorite Tippet brand?

  1. #1

Default What is your Favorite Tippet brand?

I would like to know what your favorite tippet materials is? Rio, SA, Orvis, etc? And if you feel like it, why do you use it?

I am not happy with what I have been using lately and thought I'd see what was the most popular here.

RIO is the best bang for your buck IMO. I use their Powerflex most of the time and it is outstanding. Frog Hair is also great but it is too expensive so I don't use it much.

I use S.A. since I can get it locally and it's cheap.
I figure it's as good as anything else out there and I don't have to pay for popularity.

I also like Rio, very reasonably priced, and good quality.

Orvis Super Strong or S.A. whichever is available at the time. Both products work well for me and I've never experienced any problems.

I am almost afraid to answer your questions because I know I will catch a lot of slack for my answer. I do not use what others are using. I purchase fluorocarbon mono in either 4 pound test or 6 pound test in the bulk spools which can be 250 yards up to 600 yards. I transfer this to a smaller tippet spool that fits in my vest and keep the bulk spool in the refrigerator where it is kept from heat and light which are the 2 things that can destroy mono. I can purchase the 250 yards spools for about $10 and the 600 yard spools for $24. This sounds like a lot of mono to keep on hand, but, I also make my own furled leaders and use the same mono for them. It is less expensive this way for me plus it works for me.
