Thread: Odd Question

  1. #1

    Default Odd Question

If i wanted to tie up 25- 75 BH nymphs and went out and bought 1 pack of beads and 1 pack of hooks. Why do i have to go buy another pack of beads to have enough?
spirit river beads 24 per pk.
    Tungstun 20 per pk.
    Cabelas Brass 30 per pk.

They should go by 25's like the hooks. This is a dumb observation but i'm curious if theres an answer. I'm thinking its so they try to get u to spend more but maybe not? Anybody know??

    Thanks

WWFF - Nothing dumb about that observation. Cabela's does other odd things in regards to their tying materials, like selling THREE cards of chenille per pack, and TWO spools of thread per pack on some kinds of thread. It would take the casual tyer a LONG time to use up that much material for his/her own use! I attribute it to a case of rectal/cranial inversion on their part........Ed

i dont think its a dumb observation either!

i think its very dumb to sell 24 packs of beads because i don't know any pack of 2 dozen hooks instead of 25!

i definately think it is a way to make you spend more money without the average person realizing it!

and then they really get you with the tungsten beads

8 buns and ten hot dogs...

If you buy everything in bulk, you will still run out of the exact thing you need at the worst possible time.

And Ed, I buy thread by the handful, chenille by the skein, hooks by the hundreds, and I am only tying for myself...

    Hi,

The Book Mailer sells beads in 100 packs. Like someone already suggested, you can do 100 packs of bead AND hooks to match things up OR some patterns call for two beads. Take care & ...

Fly tying merchants have learned a lot from hardware store merchants. How many times has anyone gone to the hardware store to buy some wood screws and found that you needed to get 2 packages to get what you needed and then had 7 screws left over ?
