Default Fly Suggestions for Northern New Mexico in June

I've been asked by a fly fishing friend to tie up some flies for a trip he is making to North-Eastern New Mexico. He will be fishing the Mora Flats area near Santa Fe the last week in June. I've not fished this area before and I'm looking for patterns that others have had success with.

    Thank you in advance,

    Sincerely,
    Brian

    Hi, Brian
I've been going to northern New Mexico for over 25 years but have never fished the area you are talking about and have only been a couple of times as early as June. I would imagine that there might still be stoneflies around at that time.
Here is the website for Ed Adams, a guide out of Taos. I've emailed him a couple of times and asked about flies and he has always been very helpful:

Here's another well known guide, Van Beacham, who I've talked to at the Fly Fishing Show in Arlington a time or two:

And, of course, Taylor Streit and his son's shop in Taos:

Here are a couple of fly shops that have answered emails about hatches and flies for me as well:

They are all usually very helpful with fly selections and hatches. Just email them and tell them what you need to know.
    Good luck,
    Joe

    Joe and The Donn,

Thanks so much for your messages. I'll check with Steven at Backwoods (been meaning to go by there anyway) and see what he suggests and I'll contact a few of the shops that you suggested Joe. As this isn't a trip I'm going on I'm not going to invest a huge amount of time in finding fly patterns but my friend has said he pay me for the flies I tie so I want to be able to provide him with flies that he'll catch fish on but also ones that I'll be able to add to my arsenal when i go on trips.

    Thanks again,

    Brian

I'd call Taos Fly Shop...Taylor Streit's place. In my travels in that area, I have found them to be the most knowledgeable regarding all of the region's trout waters.
