    Default Snow Cones anyone?????

    Good Morning,
I am heading to Pyramid Lake, Nevada next week and I hear that the "Snow Cone" is working pretty well. Can anyone help with what the receipe for this fly is? I think that it is a midge type pattern.
    Thanks

When i was there 2 weeks ago my "best" fly was a size 12 Scud hook( Tiemco 2457) with 2 pieces of chrystal flash for tailing material,
red thread body with fine silver wire rib and a silver bead head.
Fished it from 5' to 7' below the indicator on 4X tippet.
When they were "on" it was awesome.

You sure you weren't thinking of the "Ice Cream Cone?" Pattern would be: White bead (brass, tungsten, glass), red wire rib, and black super floss/spanflex body. Tie them in #10-12. Be sure to bring along some "Candy Canes" too. Same kind of fly but with a silver bead, silver rib, and red body. Body can be thread, super floss/spanflex, frostbite (hard to find), flashabou, etc. Lately I've been tying them with Superhair a la Craven's "Jujubee" patterns and I really like the effect. A coating of Hard as Nails or brush on Loctite will make this pattern practically indestructible.

If you did have the name right to begin with, odds are the "Snow Cone" is just a local variant of the above patterns. You should contact the Reno Fly Shop (http://www.renoflyshop.com/) if you want to know for sure.

    Good luck at Pyramid.

Why not seek out the original, tied by the originator of the pattern, Kelly Davison

You guys are awesome. Thanks for all of the info. I'll try tying several variations to feed to the Pyramid fish.
    Thanks again,
