Z Axis guide spacing

Hi,

I was laying out the guide spacing on a Z Axis 490-4 blank and found that if you use the suggested spacing off of the Sage website, two of the guides are within about a quarter of an inch of the bottom of the rod sections. I looked at the 2 piece z axis spacing and noticed that it was identical to the four piece. This is not true for the SLT or the XP. Does anyone know what is up with this. I am new to rod building. Is there something simple I am not aware of or is there some correction out there?

just move the guides up ontot the female ferruel no biggie. sage says you are alowd to move it that much without voiding warrenty.

You say you are new to rod building is this your first rod???

It seems odd to me that Sage would call for the guides to be so close to the section ends. I will see if a shop will let me measure a factory rod.


I built a rod about ten years ago. This Spring, I started building rods for relaxation. The Z Axis and a Forecast that I am putting together simultaneously are numbers 4 and 5.

I built that same rod this winter and just made the ferrule wrap a little bigger and included the guide - it fished just great.

Its actually preferable to have a guide on the female ferrule as you discribe. You have to wrap the ferrules anyways, and this way you end up with a single wrap to cover the ferrul and the guide. I doubt its a mistake, but still probably worthwhile to look at how the factory rods are done. The guide spacing from the other models don't come into play since the tapers are different.
