Farmington River, CT

My next trip will be monday to the cool clear waters of the Farmington River in Connecticut. The water should be good, just high enough to keep the fish not as spookey and just warm enough to get them in the mood for battle. I will keep you posted and maybe have a picture or two when I get back.

I'm due north of the Farmington about 2 hours. On Sunday the water temp was 40 degrees. It still has a ways to go before things will get lively. Hope that if you go you prove me wrong.

The Farmington is a tailwater and has fairly good fishing year 'round
Although I didn't make it this year, I've done well there mid-winter

Great day out on the water. I fished with my Uncle and my Cousin today. It was sunny and on the low side of 50 degrees F, slight wind with some major gusts. The water as slightly high, crystal clear, and between 40 and 42 degrees F. I hooked a dandy of a fish at 1100 on about my 10th cast. Had the leader to the tip of the rod when the hook pulled, he dogged it deep the whole fight so I didn't even see him. I guess he would be between 12"-14" by the fight but couldn't be sure. He either took a #8 BH tan stonefly or a #14 BHPT soft hackle. That was the only fish of our group, but we saw others catching fish in the late morning to early afternoon. Dark brown caddis #14-#16 hatching all day, during early afternoon #16 Blue quills and various midges all day. I didn't see a single rise all day, and I was watching. I'll be going again on or after opening day in CT so I will keep you posted.
