Thread: TFO NXT 4/5 weight combo

  1. Default TFO NXT 4/5 weight combo

Picked up this combo a few weeks ago and this seems to be a great rod/reel combo so far. I have fished it a few times and practiced my casting on the lawn with it many times. However, for some reason the line really drags through the guides sometimes. It almost feels as if the coating of the fly line is coming off but I can find no damage to the line and can't see anything wrong with any of the guides. I have noticed this since it was new and have tried pulling the line back and forth on each guide but can't seem to duplicate it. Wondering if anyone else has this rod and has experienced this. Doesn't happen all the time but seemed to happen much more yesterday. I am gonna try a different line on it next time out to see what happens.

    georgiared,
I'm surprised you're having any problems at all with anything from TFO. I've cast several of their rods and have found no problems with any of their gear. I have, however, never cast one of the lines they sell with their combos. But, I don't know what lines they use. I liked the 9' 4wieght Professional so much that I opted for one of them over the Sage Launch. I use a RIO WF4F line and it works great. If you are planning on changing lines, RIO would be my recommendation.
From what I can see at their website, the NXT rod is the same as the Signature series except it's offered in a 4 piece. I wish they would offer the Signature in a 7 1/2', 4 piece, 5 wieght. That would be the cat's meow. You might want to consider a Cortland 444 Peach line as well.
    Good Luck, and C'ya Later,
Where you go is less important than how you take the steps.
