For salmon there would be wogs(pink deerhair poppers)
eggs, bunny leaches, and well, here is a site for flies to chose from.

For steelhead there would be flies like the moose turd, egg patterns purple meany and others like these:

    FlyTyer,

JZ has given you great advice.

Where are you planning to fish?

If you're thinking of Great Lakes tribs, popular flies include salmon yarn eggs, estaz eggs, stonefly nymphs, sucker spawn, egg sucking leeches, crystal buggers and western patterns like green butt skunks, thors, babine specials and comets.

If you're thinking western rivers, or Alaska, here's a couple of sites that might be helpful:

    Good luck!

    Hi,

If it's Atlantics you're after, then Blue Charm, Coosebooms, Rusty Rat, and Black Bear Green Butts are the way to go.

    FlyTyer,

Check out the fly swap page. JZ just started up one for Steelhead and Salmon flies, you may want to jump in on that. It's a good chance to see what other folks' use for go to patterns.

Default Since you're in the fly tying forum

I'd go with the classics, Green Highlander, Jock Scott and Mar Lodge are the way to go ...
