    Default Carey Special

I decided to tie up some Carey Specials in size 6, using three strands of peacock herl for the body. The recipie call for a copper rib, but after tying the first one with the copper, I switched to using the tag end of the 3/0 thread for the rib. Since the rib sinks so deep into the herl I don't think it should make any difference. Do you? Thanks.

    Panman,

I did a little experiment with wire ribbing and different materials for body material. The ribbing becomes considerably more pronounced under water. I don't think it has so much to do with the ribbing as much as the change in color once the body becomes wet and darkens, thereby making the ribbing more pronounced. Tie one up and put it in water and you should be able to tell if the copper will shine through the body material.

    Hope this helps
    Steve

Are you doing it to reinforce the peacock, Tim.

If so I would do a dubbing loop with the peacock..or make a wire / peacock rope.

I do carey specials all the time and just use the thread to make a peacock herl rope works good for me just reinforces the herl.
